Safety and Fall Prevention

Assisting a person and preventing them from falling is one of the most important parts of long-term care for aging and chronic or degenerative conditions and short-term care during recovery from an accident or surgery. A simple slip and fall can make an already delicate situation even worse, causing injury or death to the patient, loved one providing care, and/or professional care provider.

All Silver Pacific care providers are fully trained to minimize the risk of falls inside the patient’s home and while enjoying walks or excursions (shopping trips, doctor’s appointments, etc.).

Step #1: Troubleshooting

During the initial client meeting, we’ll assess the client (physical and mental abilities, medical conditions, goals and wishes, personality and preferences, schedule, etc.) and the client’s living environment (floor surfaces; toilet, tub and shower; stairs and railings, etc.). Next, we’ll come up with an action plan to minimize the potential for injury for the client, their loved ones and guests, and all attending care staff. This may include the installation of grip bars and railings, slip-resistant mats, corner guards, and more.

Step #2: Dignified Care

As the care schedule dictates, we’ll be there to help prevent slips and falls during common daily activities, including (but not limited to):

  • Getting dressed and undressed

  • Using the toilet

  • Baths and showers

  • Meal preparation

  • Walks and exercise

  • Errands and excursions

We are well-trained and properly equipped to help clients do these activities in the safest and most dignified ways possible. Quite often, well-meaning loved ones may injure themselves, or the person receiving care, by misplacing body weight while providing assistance, tripping, or missing common causes for slips and falls. Whenever possible, we suggest that you place your trust in a professional caregiver. Silver Pacific can come up with a care plan that best meets your timing, needs, and budget.
